 “Even the night has ears” African Proverb

Meaning: This proverb is cautioning that even when you think no one is there or listening, your actions are always accounted for and witnessed. Similar to the saying, “if walls could talk,”. This proverb simply warns that you never know who is in the dark listening.

Speak and act with integrity even if there is no one seeing. Integrity is having high principles and keeping those standards consistent throughout all the different parts of the self. One of the first places integrity issues show up is in our language patterns. When we are “in integrity,” we speak from a place of wholeness. Our words match our actions. As Dr. Seuss put it, “We say what we mean and we mean what we say.” When we break from this pattern and say things we don’t really mean, we move “out of integrity.”

Can you identify someone in your life who uses language carelessly, who agrees to things readily but then never seems to be able to show up for his or her agreements? Dont be this kind of a person.

​This proverb is a caution to people to be wary of what they do or say wherever they may be because “even, walls have ears.” If you don’t guard your utterances, you may end up saying what you shouldn’t and get into trouble. You may not know who is “in the dark” listening to you.

Rule over your secrets and be careful while you talk about confidential information. Do not lie! You should know that there are no secrets on this planet. What is done in secret will one day be brought to light.
